Design Engineer

Reporting to the Principle Engineer

We are looking for a dynamic individual, with a passion for engineering, and the drive and determination to enhance our world class earth moving product. Thwaites designs and develops all aspects of its own products from cradle to grave with a small design team.  This is a unique opportunity in which you will be involved in all aspects of the design process, joining our multi-disciplinary team to develop a new range of exciting products for the global market.

You will have good communications skills, be able to work individually as well in a small team of design, development and electrical engineers.  You must also have the ability to meet tight deadlines and apply a pragmatic approach when necessary.  You will ideally be a recently graduated engineer at the start of your career, or have a few years of experience.  You could also have existing design experience of mobile construction or agricultural equipment.  A mechanical based engineering degree (BEng or MEng). Previous 3D CAD Design experience (preferably NX, but not essential) together with Finite Element Analysis packages to inform and direct the design process where necessary.

We require candidates to progress designs from concept through to development and manufacture, liaising with suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing and other departments. Ensure product data is produced including 3D models, detail drawings, technical files, product specification, and technical publications updates.  To achieve the standards we require, training will be given over the period of two years if required.  Experience or an interest in engineering projects such as machine or automotive restoration is a distinct advantage.

Working within an ISO9001 accredited company the successful candidate will be expected to control design changes within this standard and create bills of materials within an MRP system where required.

To assist you in your new role a training budget is available and relevant training will be given externally and internally, with the aim for the chosen candidate to progress towards IMechE membership.

In return, Thwaites Limited will offer a competitive salary, generous holiday allowance, bonus scheme, medical insurance, together with company pension scheme.  Although this is an R&D office-based position, agile working is in practice.
